Apply To Host A Show on WAKT
WAKT is a community radio station based in Toledo, Ohio and broadcasting on 106.1 FM. As a community radio station, we give the residents of Toledo a way to know each other through music, talk, and other forms of programming. The content of our station is generated by the community and by request of the community. We provide studio space, air time, and training for those who have original and unique ideas for radio programming.
Throughout the year, prospective hosts can apply to have their show broadcasted on our station by completing a simple web form. Applicants that meet our basic criteria for content ideas will be contacted and asked to record a pilot episode. Based on the quality of the pilot, applicants may be given a time slot on the station at no cost. Station operations are currently manned by an all-volunteer team comprised of our board of directors and other experienced community members.
Some of our criteria:
1. We are not allowed to accept advertising and hosted shows also can’t have advertising. You can bring in an underwriter but you can’t accept ads.
2. The FCC has strict rules about language. It applies to hosts and to content on shows. Music must be radio friendly.
3. WAKT provides a time slot for a show and the host must abide by any station policies and FCC regulations. Violating either could lead to your show being cancelled.
4. The WAKT Board chooses new shows with priority to hosts who live in Toledo or the surrounding NW Ohio counties. We also give priority to ideas and voices you hardly hear on commercial radio and new shows should advance our mission.
5. We expect hosts to support WAKT in their social media channels and WAKT will promote their show with on-air spots and on our social media channels.
